Geek Week Mixoleed (7) - Good bye October

October is over and so is the school break. Sad face on the last day of it. Tomorrow I'll be returning to school, but not without

  • having scored 1277 pages
  • 466 at one sitting
  • slept two nights by a lamp on because of Mara Dyer
  • freaked out over the first part of the season 8 finale of Doctor Who
  • participed in my first Twitter Party
  • danced around my room
  • and played through Dreamfall Chapters
  • wrote tons of Doctor Who fan-fiction
  • delved into animes & mangas
  • discovered new music

Maybe it's not what most people consider an eventful week. Maybe it's not socializing by a couple of shots of tequila or vodka. But maybe I enjoy this kind of racket more.

Geek Week Mixoleed (6) - Thrilling Thrillments

So many exciting event this week! School break started, Stone Cold Touch and Dreamfall Chapters released, Doctor Who next time trailer shocked us to the next galaxy and I participated in my first Twitter Party! Ahhh, Beauty on second square.

I also found this awesome, inspiring YouTube channel, called Pandora Journey. (Particularly recommended to fantasy writers.)

As for reading, it was a lousy week for me. I spent a whole day with reading Kindle Samples only and get done very little of actual books.

Geek Week Mixoleed (5) - Mission Accomplished + New Books

My week fully comprised studying intermittent with reading. And coffee of course. Gallons of coffee. Like, seriously. Who's got time for sleeping or such marginalities besides a four pages long History test and a Geography one right after the former? Duh?

Joking aside, I'm very proud of my reading progress this week. I finished FOUR books that weren't even that short. This has never happened before. I accomplished something else, too. I finally picked up my poor, abandoned violin and after one and a half year hiatus I played again. I'd like to learn to mix it with dub-step, like Lindsey Stirling. Right now, I'm practicing Radioactive by Imagine Dragons.

I love this rendition:

Geek Week Mixoleed (3) - Grueling Depths

School is so grueling. All those endless lessons, demanding tests and litanies of homework, let alone getting up so early...I commute to school so for me "early" is six fifteen in the morning. There's hardly any daylight at that time even! And who had the stupid idea of making swimming a mandatory subject for sophomores? Even with that one day off on Monday when our teachers all went on an excursion I can't remember doing anything else, but schoolwork. However, this all had an advantage though; it made my Saturday one-day holiday even sweeter. I went to a Spa & Wellness facility with my mother to swim and relax a bit. We don't usually get to spend much time together hence it was especially nice.

Geek Week Mixoleed (2) - Take the Worst and Multiply it by a Billion

Well, this was a particularly shitty week for me. Not the blogging, bookish, geek part, but when I actually have to exist IRL. And that is all I'm going to say about it. For once, I don't want to bore you to death with some lamentation of mine. For second, I really would prefer to not talk about it. I'll only tell you about one thing because it affects my reading; my phone's gone bonkers. All the apps keep crashing down - including the ones that aren't even open. I can't even send a bleedin' text message for Rasillion's sake! But, Cassidie, apart from the very sad fact you can't hang out on Goodreads via your phone, how does that affect your reading? you could ask. Two words: Kindle app.

Yeah. Half the week I couldn't read because I always read my Galleys with Kindle. Wanting is a great force, so eventually I figured out an alternative; I managed to set Adobe Digital Editions into work. But now it's on my tablet exclusively, which I can't and won't take to school with me.

At least, Sleepy Hollow returned this week and other series will follow soon. Also, this week a good ol' passion seized me towards both reading and blogging which I've lost a while ago in my rush to be near perfect.

Geek Week Mixoleed (1) - Silliness Dominance

Hi there. Welcome to the first weekly recap of my renewed blog, Geek Girl Obsess which merely three hours ago, when I started the reconstruction of the design, was Rebook424. I talked about this changes coming up and well, we are here now. Anyway, this week I posted a few of those posts you can expect in the future. TV show reviews along with the already established book reviews, and video game related posts like the one I posted about my top ten favorite video games. What I didn't introduce this week, but am going to feature later on are movie and video game reviews and walkthroughs and the same old discussion posts. The design is yet to go under some final honing tomorrow and I'm wondering if this recap name isn't too much, but in basics, this is what I'm doing now. Quite frankly, I'm terrified how it will work out, but I enjoyed this week a lot and I hope you will like it just as much.

As for the title, "Silliness Dominance" implies a tragically stupid event in my life this week. On Wednesday to be accurate. Seriously, this is major dumbness. My battery is pretty battered(...) and it goes dead lightning fast. It leaves me at having to connect it to the charger every evening because it drains completely overnight if I don't. However, I happened to forget about it on Tuesday, just as I forgot that my phone is my alarm clock. You can figure it out on your own now. Got it? Yes. My phone didn't ring, I woke up an hour late and missed my whole first class. It was so infinitely embarrassing. (Just as much as that I misspelled "obsess" in my header. Shame on me big time.)

The Maze Runner Pre-Movie Sum Up

Geek Girl Picture is a new feature here on Rebook424, where I share every kind of movie related stuff. Reviews, news, pics, and info.

The Maze Runner movie is coming out tomorrow, who is excited? Me, too. I'm so sooo freakin' excited. I've read the books a while back and though I did find some aspects that were not seamless, I still enjoyed them vastly and was super-thrilled when I heard it was going to make it to the big screen. Thanks to the film industry, we weren't any short of tidbits of news and teasers while we were waiting. They started to feed us pretty early after the shooting was set into motion. But these hints were scattered throughout the past couple of months so I decided to make a little compilation of the most relevant pieces of information.

The Maze Runner was written by James Dashner in 2009. The book features a boy called Thomas, who wakes up in an elevator that transports him to the maze without any recollections of who he is, but his name. The maze is already occupied by other boys that arrived one at a month in the same state. The maze is surrounded by walls that close up every night and the other side of it is swarmed by myriads of deadly creatures. However, when a girl appears for the first time since they've been there, their whole, well thought-out system topples. The creatures break into their safe-heaven and the sky's going down. And they have to figure out what to do next.

Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow "runners" for a shot at escape.

The filming, started May 13, 2013 and ended July 12, 2013, took place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was directed by Wes Ball and was produced by Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, and Lee Stollman with a screenplay by Noah Oppenheim, Grant Pierce Myers and T.S. Nowlin.

Cast:
Dylan O'Brien as Thomas
Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Newt
Kaya Scodelario as Teresa Agnes
Will Poulter as Gally
Ki Hong Lee as Minho
Blake Cooper as Chuck
Aml Ameen as Alby
Alexander Flores as Winston
Jacob Latimore as Jeff
Chris Sheffield as Ben
Dexter Darden as Frypan
Randall D. Cunningham as Clint
Joe Adler as Zart
Patricia Clarkson as Chancellor Ava Paige

Timeline:

The film released eleven character cards for the film in July 2013. Starting in January 2014, Director Wes Ball released one image from the film once a week, leading up to the film's first trailer release on March 17, 2014.

A viral marketing campaign launched by 20th Century Fox began on April 16, 2014. The campaign is a website featuring the main characters while focusing on W.C.K.D, an organisation in Dashner's novel series of the same name. The website has the domain wckdisgood.com (quick tip: turn down the volume if you tend to get scared by eerie tunes)

On June 26, 2014, Dylan O'Brien tweeted that the original The Maze Runner book will be re-released with a new book cover based on the film's poster.

On July 29, 2014, the second trailer for the film was released exclusively on Yahoo! Movies.

Trivia:

  • The production had to hire snake wranglers to make sure the areas where they were filming were snake free. Before filming began the wranglers found 25 venomous snakes. The biggest one they found was a 5 foot rattlesnake.
  • To gain the role of Chuck, actor Blake Cooper continuously campaigned for an audition via twitter. He would send director Wes Ball tweet after tweet after tweet stating that he was made for the role. Wes Ball eventually relented and told Cooper to send his audition to the casting director who stated that Cooper was the perfect Chuck.
  • Of the largely British cast, only actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who plays Newt, got to keep his accent.
