Geek Girl Picture is a new feature here on Rebook424, where I share every kind of movie related stuff. Reviews, news, pics, and info. |
The Maze Runner movie is coming out tomorrow, who is excited? Me, too. I'm so sooo freakin' excited. I've read the books a while back and though I did find some aspects that were not seamless, I still enjoyed them vastly and was super-thrilled when I heard it was going to make it to the big screen. Thanks to the film industry, we weren't any short of tidbits of news and teasers while we were waiting. They started to feed us pretty early after the shooting was set into motion. But these hints were scattered throughout the past couple of months so I decided to make a little compilation of the most relevant pieces of information.
The Maze Runner was written by James Dashner in 2009. The book features a boy called Thomas, who wakes up in an elevator that transports him to the maze without any recollections of who he is, but his name. The maze is already occupied by other boys that arrived one at a month in the same state. The maze is surrounded by walls that close up every night and the other side of it is swarmed by myriads of deadly creatures. However, when a girl appears for the first time since they've been there, their whole, well thought-out system topples. The creatures break into their safe-heaven and the sky's going down. And they have to figure out what to do next.
Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow "runners" for a shot at escape. |

The film released eleven character cards for the film in July 2013. Starting in January 2014, Director Wes Ball released one image from the film once a week, leading up to the film's first trailer release on March 17, 2014.
A viral marketing campaign launched by 20th Century Fox began on April 16, 2014. The campaign is a website featuring the main characters while focusing on W.C.K.D, an organisation in Dashner's novel series of the same name. The website has the domain wckdisgood.com (quick tip: turn down the volume if you tend to get scared by eerie tunes)
On June 26, 2014, Dylan O'Brien tweeted that the original The Maze Runner book will be re-released with a new book cover based on the film's poster.
On July 29, 2014, the second trailer for the film was released exclusively on Yahoo! Movies.

Trivia:
- The production had to hire snake wranglers to make sure the areas where they were filming were snake free. Before filming began the wranglers found 25 venomous snakes. The biggest one they found was a 5 foot rattlesnake.
- To gain the role of Chuck, actor Blake Cooper continuously campaigned for an audition via twitter. He would send director Wes Ball tweet after tweet after tweet stating that he was made for the role. Wes Ball eventually relented and told Cooper to send his audition to the casting director who stated that Cooper was the perfect Chuck.
- Of the largely British cast, only actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who plays Newt, got to keep his accent.
